THE BEGINNING STORY
Twenty years ago, I required an essential single-storey rear extension on my first 1930's three-bedroom house, the reason? Was to extend our current ground floor kitchen and living room as we had a small house. Back then the internet was relatively new, and people referred back to the local directory the old big slab yellow pages book the one that was dumped outside your door by the yellow pages man, or the smaller blue Thompson local directory where the most popular books to find local tradespersons in your area. Specifically, I was searching for an architect or drafting technician to create drawings for planning and building control purposes to be submitted to the council for approval. I was phoning around from company to company and was shocked at the jargon architects were giving me. Such as we will charge you 20% of the build cost. or we will charge at-stage payments for each area (planning drawings & building regulation drawings) coming up to figures which were not clear just for a small design needed. The most common feedback was we need to come out and have a look at the project in mind and charge you for the site visit which does not include a site-measured survey. This was daunting as we had no idea the total cost of drawings was going to be.

All was not clear with the pricing and services others were offering, I was going around in circles, and all we were doing was building a small extension like a square box on the back of our house. Why was it so difficult to get the service I wanted?
After one month of trying endlessly from others, getting pricing from £1800 to £3000 for a set of drawings (that's 20 years ago pricing too) I thought I would give it ago myself. My background was working in a structural engineering office in baker street where I was having inside training from senior collogues on a daily basis which helped me understand how to put these drawings together. After two weeks of working on the drawings and looking through endless building regulation booklets, getting help from the other workers I had a full set of plans ready for submission to the council.
After two weeks the council signed off all the design works issuing certificates for the build to take place.
The idea then came to me to help others in need of the same service.

It all started 20 years ago from here, now providing an all in one service for you the home owner helping in every angle of the design to construction phase at affordable pricing and high quality drawings
Now looking back we have been educating so many home owners and builders during our years in the design field and still keeping up the excellent reputation we have in helping others achieve their objective in getting all design plans approved by all the authority's
"ARCHITECTS MAKING SUCH A BIG THING OUT OF NOTHING"
I then formed DISCOUNT PLANS LTD 5 years later in 2005 creating a unique service for everyone in need of technical drawings for extensions and loft conversions. We published a small advert in the Yellow pages with all the services listed offered to clients with pricing for all drawings listed, it all kicked off from there. As the times were going on the television was airing loads of programs everyday during the daytime such as "homes under the hammer" and other building renovation programs which educated home-owners into what they needed to do to renovate and extend their home. The daytime TV programs were actually on our side recommending us "the technical draughtsmen" instead of using the expensive high street architect which where charging extortionate high prices for drawings for straightforward extension and loft conversion designs. Next the big 2008 recession came in and everybody felt the pinch, we then were seen as the ideal company to use for any kind of design service. the rest is history.
